Blizzard Pick Up Needed Win

An unusual Tuesday night game proved to be just what the Blizzard needed as they traveled to Minot and beat the Minotauros 3-0.

After dropping two one-goal games to the first place Austin Bruins over the weekend, the Blizzard were in desperate need of a victory. Minot had taken a ten-point lead in the central division standings after sweeping Aberdeen over the weekend and with a three game series against Minot this week the Blizzard were hoping for a strong showing as they battle for a playoff birth.

Russ Jordan scored his seventh goal of the season putting the Blizzard up 1-0 early in the first period, just 1:12 into the contest. Brandon Parker was credited with the assist.

The Blizzard had three penalties in the first period but Minot was unable to capitalize on any of their power play chances. Only 12 penalty minutes were recorded in the game, three days after Brookings and Austin were booked for a total of 92 minutes on Saturday.

The score remained 1-0 until Jared Goudreau scored at the 9:07 mark in the third period to give the Blizzard a 2-0 lead. Assisting on the goal was Jordan and Will Graber.

Evan Hesse scored the third goal of the game at the 17:44 mark of the final period to give the Blizzard the 3-0 victory. Jeff Flicker and Parker had the assist.

Connor Girard bounced back with the victory in net for the Blizzard, stopping all 32 Minot shots. Merrick Madsen had 25 saves for Minot in goal.

The Blizzard and Minot will be back at it this weekend in Brookings. The teams will play two games in Brookings on Friday and Saturday night. Puck drops at 7:15pm both nights.
