Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brookings Blizzard defeated the Minot Minotauros in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO) this past Friday. After a scoreless first period, Garrett Elmore put Brookings in front with a power play goal. Mikhail Hakkarainen and Blake Busch scored as well to give the Blizzard a 3-1 lead heading into the third. Brookings made the score 4-2 on a goal by Kane Durment at 8:36 in the third period. The Minotauros evened things up at 4-4 at 14:42 in the third period. After an overtime period, Mikhail Hakkarainen scored early in the shootout and Will Gauthier sealed the victory in the fifth round. Durment tallied one goal and two assists in the win. In addition, Brookings received assists from TJ Samec, Nick Ford, and Chase Gamelin. Eric Hancock stopped 31 of the 35 shots that he faced.


The Blizzard needed extra time as well on Satuday to sweep the Minot Minotauros in a 3-2 overtime win. Brookings led 2-1 late in the third, but Minot was able to tie it up. TJ Samec recieved the OT win with just over 30 seconds left in the session. Garrett Elmore and Brett Callahan each scored one each as well. Max Rasberg picked up three assists and Kane Durment had two for a five-point weekend. Eric Hancock stopped 28 ouf of 30 shots for his second victory.


The Brookings Blizzard travel to Blaine, MN this coming weekend for the NAHL Showcase and will play the Aston Rebels on Wednesday at 3PM. Watch live at!
