NAHL announces 2018 Showcase schedule

BROOKINGS, SD          The 2018 NAHL Showcase schedule was  released on Wednesday afternoon. The Brookings Blizzard will play four games from September 19-22.

The event will take place inside the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota. The Showcase consists of all the teams around the North American Hockey League attracts over 9,000 people in overall attendance, including more than 330 professional, college and junior scouts. The Showcase is the premier event of its kind for scouts and is a yearly gathering for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer (Courtesy:

All teams participating in the Showcase will participate in four games (except the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights and the Northeast Generals).

As for the Blizzard, they will open up the Showcase on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 8 PM when they take on the Amarillo Bulls. The Bulls play in the South Division and finished last season missing the playoffs with a 23-26-8 record.

After the Wednesday night matchup, the Blizzard will then face-off against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights at 1:30 PM. The Knights play in the Midwest Division of the NAHL and finished in third place last season, landing a spot in the playoffs with a 30-24-5 record. They advanced to the third round, where they then fell to the eventual champion Shreveport Mudbugs.

On Friday, the Blizzard will take on one of the newer teams to the league, the Maryland Black Bears, at 4:00 PM. The Black Bears are one of the two new additions to the NAHL in 2018, the other being the Chippewa Steel.

And to wrap it up on Saturday, the Blizzard will square off against the Kenai River Brown Bears. The Brown Bears missed the playoffs last season and they play in the NAHL’s Midwest Division
