WJC Div 1 Final Update: Vaaler and Team Norway take fourth.

The 2019-20 World Junior Championships wrapped up play earlier today with Team Austria completing the upset and taking gold.

Vaaler and Team Norway finished the tournament with record of 1-2-2 and 7 points. The Norwegians took 4th place in the tournament and have nothing to hang their heads about, only losing twice (Both to the teams that finished 1st and 2nd).

Friday, Dec. 13th vs Team Denmark (1-0 Win)

  • Both Norway and Denmark competed all tournament for these final games and the opportunity to play for a Gold Medal. This barn burner of a game included a defensive battle that led to a shootout with a 0-0 tie. In the 5th round of the shootout Pontus Finstad of Team Norway scored to give the norwegians their second overtime win of the tournament.

Sunday, Dec. 15th vs Team Latvia (2-0 Loss)

  • Latvia was the team to beat throughout the tournament and the first period was locked up at zeros. Five minutes into the second Latvia broke the tie and took a 1-0 lead. Despite a strong defensive game, the Norwegians took a 2-0 loss in their final game of the 2019-20 WJC Div 1 tournament. Despite the loss, Team Norway played a very well tournament and finished in 4th place w/ 7 points.
