Blizzard defenseman, Sondre Vaaler left almost two weeks ago to join Team Norway as the compete in the 2019-2020 World Junior Championship Division 1 in Belarus, Minsk.
This past week the team finally hit the ice in their round robin match ups:
Monday, Dec. 9th vs Team Slovenia (6-2 Win)
Team Norway struck first as Lars Christian Rodne (Forward, Bismarck Bobcats) gave the Norwegians the 1-0 Lead. The second period was all Norway as they added five more goals to give them a substantial lead. Team Slovenia responded twice but it wasn’t enough and Team Norway took the opening game 6-2.
Tuesday, Dec. 10th vs Team Austria (5-2 Loss)
Game two started with Austria’s offense striking first. However, Team Norway responded twice and took the lead heading into the second. With no action in the second, The austrians were the ones who came to play in the third and scored four unanswered goals to earn a 5-2 Win.
Thursday, Dec. 12th vs Team Belarus
After that tough third period in game two, Team Norway came to play and took an early 2-0 lead. Belarus responded in the second and then once again in the third to tie this game and force an extra period of hockey. This was the third overtime game of the tournament and a minute and forty-eight seconds into it Team Norway’s Jonathan Hermansson scored the game winner and gave the Norwegians their 5th point of the tournament!
Friday, Dec. 13th vs Denmark
Denmark is currently in 5th place with 2 points.
Sunday, Dec. 15th vs Latvia
Latvia hold the lead on the Standing board. This Sunday afternoon game should be a good test for Team Norway and it wraps of the round robin play.
